How to cook with fresh herbs!

Food would be so much less flavourful were it not for the wonders of herbs. My personal favorite herb is fresh coriander – what is yours?

HAVING A GOOD THYME!

As a passionate food lover, I’m always searching for the combination of flavours, where delicious and health meet – and luckily for me, herbs hit that spot perfectly! Although salt brings out the flavour in food, I prefer adding fresh or dried herbs to enhance the existing flavours of the ingredients!

Herbs and spices are must-have ingredients, not just in my kitchen but in every kitchen! Whether fresh or dried, adding herbs to your recipes is not only an easy way to increase the aroma of the dish and kick up the flavour, but they have amazing health benefits too!

Herbs contain small amounts of vitamins and minerals, plus they are an excellent source of antioxidants which are nutrients that reduce inflammation in the body. Antioxidants help reduce blood pressure, risks for heart disease, and cancer and they keep arteries healthy, improve digestive issues, and promote both brain health and memory!

Here are a few of my tips for cooking with herbs:
• Use whole herbs at the beginning of your cook – like bay leaves – because it takes longer to draw out the flavours.
• You can perk up the taste and appearance of most savory dishes by sprinkling fresh or dried herbs on the plate before serving.
• Lastly, I add my favorite herbs in a bottle with olive oil to add flavour to the oil.

Not only do these tips make cooking with herbs a pleasure, but it’s wonderful how many different ways there are to cook herbs – here are a few of my favorite ways to incorporate herbs into my dishes:

• Create the ideal marinade for chicken, pork, or lamb by mixing Rosemary, Parsley, and Garlic together with some lemon.
• Add Rosemary to roasted potatoes.
• Fresh Mint is great in your beverages, use it to make iced tea from flat to exciting, use it in your smoothies, and of course the occasional mojito.
• Enjoy a delicious salsa – be sure to add coriander otherwise it is just another boring dish with tomatoes and onion!
